When twenty-five-year-old Takako’s boyfriend suddenly announces he is marrying someone else, her world shatters.
Reluctantly, she accepts an offer from her eccentric Uncle Satoru to live rent-free in the tiny room above his shop.

Hidden in the Jimbocho district of Tokyo, the Morisaki Bookshop is a reader’s paradise. Housed in an old wooden building on a quiet street corner, it is packed with hundreds of second-hand books.
The shop is Satoru’s pride and joy, a place where he has poured his soul since his wife left him five years ago.

While Takako initially hopes only to nurse her broken heart in peace, she soon discovers entire new worlds hidden among the towering stacks of paper.
As summer fades into autumn, Satoru and Takako realize they have much more in common than they first thought. Together, they learn that the Morisaki Bookshop has a great deal to teach them both about life, love, and the incredible healing power of books.
